Itinerary

Day 1- Arrive at Chateau de Gere

You’ll arrive at Lourdes airport where you’ll be met by a member of the Alkari team before setting off for the Chateau in the heart of the Pyrenees. Once you arrive, you’ll be greeted with a glass of local wine, chilled beer, tea or coffee. We’ll give you a brief overview of the weekend before taking you to your rooms. Shortly after that, it’s just a five minute trip into the local town for dinner.

Meals included: Dinner (Local restaurant)

Accommodation: Chateau de Gere or Soumabayle

Day 2-Arudy and Via Feratta

We’ll get an early start to make the most of the day, with a hearty breakfast served in the chateau. Once you’ve had your fill, we’ll head off to the nearby crags at Arudy to give you a chance to cut your teeth on any of the 160 routes on offer. Once you’ve decided your arms need a rest, we’ll head back to the Chateau for some lunch and cake before setting off for the Via Feratta routes in Gourette. Literally translated to the ‘Iron Way’, via feratta is a route through the mountains equipped with steel cables, ladders and bridges hammered into the rock. It gives you the chance to traverse sheer cliffs whilst enjoying awe-inspiring views of the mountains from a totally unique perspective.

Meals included: Large cooked breakfast (served at Chateau de Gere), Lunch (served at Chateau de Gere) and Dinner (local restaurant)

Accommodation: Chateau de Gere or Soumabayle

Pic de Midi d'Ossau

Another early start will have us leaving for Pic de Midi d’Ossau, the most imposing mountain in the area. Here we’ll take a steady hike through the foothills before reaching the crags near the summit. Pic de Midi d’Ossau is home to a huge number of different crags to climb for the day and even gives you an opportunity to try your hand at traditional, or ‘trad’ climbing! We’ll take a large lunch along with us and plenty of tea and coffee for the whole day.

After plenty of climbing and photos, we’ll head back down to get picked up by the transport and taken back to the Chateau for a hearty barbecue in the evening.

Meals included: Breakfast (Served at Chateau de Gere), Lunch (carried in packs and prepared on the mountain), Dinner (Barbecue at the Chateau)

Accommodation: Chateau de Gere or Soumabayle

Day 4-Departure

After a relaxing night’s sleep, breakfast will be served at the chateau. After packing your bags, you’ll have a chance to visit the local cheese farm and stop off in town for coffee and crepes before we head back to Lourdes airport.
